You will lead a team of Computer Vision Engineers in developing market-leading perception and obstacle detection systems for autonomous mining equipment. As a perception engineer, you will develop and integrate state-of-the-art autonomous vehicle obstacle detection systems in a variety of applications, including mining and agriculture.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing obstacle detection systems for autonomous vehicles.
  • Evaluate & deploy sensors such as LiDAR, radar, cameras, ultrasonic, and other exteroceptive sensors for autonomous vehicle operation.
  • Develop algorithms in C++ to interface with sensors, process data, and make intelligent decisions in real-time for autonomous vehicle missions.
  • Work with project managers to deploy and configure the product to customer sites.

Required Experience and Skillsets:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with C++, preferably C++11 or newer.
  • Experience developing multithreaded embedded software applications in Linux.
  • Experience processing sensor data.
  • Experience with a scripting language such as Python3 or MATLAB.
  • Thorough understanding of mathematics, including linear algebra, especially solving least-squares equations and performing coordinate system transformations.

 

Preferred Experience and Skillsets:

  • Masters or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
    • Example research areas: Robotics, Signal & Image Processing, or Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
  • Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS and/or ROS2).
  • Experience with DDS (data distribution service) or other publish-subscribe messaging.
  • Experience with real-time processing various types of sensor data for autonomous vehicles.
    • LiDAR or stereo camera point cloud processing, particularly for object recognition.
    • Automotive radar object processing.
    • Image processing, particularly for object recognition.
    • Sensor fusion and object tracking.
  • Experience with developing embedded software in a Linux environment.
    • Understanding of various communication protocols, including: UDP, CAN, and Serial.
    • Developing software for a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) and multithreading.
    • Developing software for GPUs.
  • Thorough understanding of algorithms for robotics.
    • Machine Learning and AI. Experience deploying these systems in C++ in an embedded environment.
    • Feature extraction, classification, and object tracking algorithms.
